About the Film

The broadcast is working exactly as intended.

Puppetland is a dark comedy told through a surreal channel-surfing experience inside a stitched-up totalitarian world.

From propaganda cartoons to fake movie trailers and glitching broadcasts, each segment reveals another layer of control beneath the entertainment. As the programming begins to break down, the seams of Puppetland start to tear.

Director's Note

A joke with a knife in it.

Puppetland uses puppets, parody, and familiar broadcast formats to explore how media systems teach people to obey. The film starts as entertainment, then slowly reveals the machinery underneath it.

Using puppets became a major part of the film’s meta idea: if the film is criticizing the way people are shaped, distracted, and controlled by media, then making the characters actual puppets felt like the clearest and funniest way to express that.
